Packing List vs Commercial Invoice: Letter of Credit Cross-Checks
The data points to compare between the packing list and commercial invoice before presenting under a Letter of Credit.

Short answer
The commercial invoice states what is sold and for how much; the packing list shows how the goods are packed. Under a Letter of Credit, their data must not conflict with each other, the transport document or the credit (UCP 600 Art. 14(d)). Compare goods, quantities, packages, marks and references before presenting.
| Invoice role | Value and goods description (Art. 18) |
|---|---|
| Packing list role | Packages, weights, marks |
| Test | Data must not conflict (Art. 14(d)) |
Cross-check
- Goods description consistent (invoice must correspond with 45A).
- Quantity and units the same.
- Number of packages matches the transport document.
- Marks and numbers identical across documents.
- Invoice number and date referenced consistently.
- Credit number shown if 47A requires it.
Common conflicts
- Net weight on invoice differs from packing list.
- Different package counts after a late repack.
- Packing list prepared from an earlier order version.
