Short answer
Presentation means delivering the documents required by the Letter of Credit to the nominated or issuing bank before the presentation deadline and expiry. The exporter collects documents from all issuers, checks them against the credit and each other, prepares any draft and cover letter, and delivers them; the bank then has up to five banking days to examine them.
| Deliver to | Nominated bank or issuing bank (Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Deadline | Presentation period and expiry (Art. 14(c), 29) |
| Bank examination | Up to five banking days (Art. 14(b)) |
Steps
- Collect originals and copies from every issuer.
- Check each document against the credit and against each other.
- Correct problems with the issuer.
- Prepare the draft (if required) and cover letter.
- Deliver to the bank and keep proof of delivery.
- Track the bank's response.
If the deadline falls on a bank holiday
- Article 29 extends it to the next banking day when the bank is closed for reasons other than force majeure.
