Short answer
Field 32B states the currency code (ISO 4217) and amount of the Letter of Credit. Together with any tolerance in field 39A, it sets the maximum that can be drawn. The invoice must be in the same currency, and the total drawn must not exceed the permitted amount (UCP 600 Art. 18(b), 30).
| Format | Currency code + amount, e.g. USD125000,00 |
|---|---|
| Decimal mark | Comma in SWIFT format |
| Tolerance | Field 39A or 'about' wording (Art. 30) |
What to check
- Currency matches the sales contract.
- Amount matches the contract value.
- Tolerance in 39A if quantities vary.
- Invoices in the same currency.
Common mistakes
- Reading the SWIFT comma as a thousands separator.
- Invoicing in a different currency.
- Exceeding the amount after partial shipments.
