Short answer
Field 46A of the MT700 lists every document the beneficiary must present to get paid under the Letter of Credit, with details such as the issuer, number of originals and copies, and content each document must show. If a 46A document is missing or doesn't meet its description, the presentation is discrepant.
| Field | 46A — Documents Required |
|---|---|
| Read with | 45A (goods) and 47A (conditions) |
| Common misses | Originals count, 'signed', 'full set', issuer |
What a 46A line contains
- The document name.
- Number of originals and copies.
- Who must issue or sign it.
- What it must state or show.
Mistakes to avoid
- Presenting copies where originals are required.
- Missing a 'full set' of bills of lading.
- A certificate issued by the wrong party.
- Overlooking a required statement such as the credit number.
Fictional 46A line
'+CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN IN 1 ORIGINAL AND 2 COPIES ISSUED BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.' Requirements: certificate of origin; one original; two copies; issued by a chamber of commerce. A certificate issued by the exporter itself would not comply.
