Short answer
If the expiry date or last day for presentation falls on a day the bank is closed for reasons other than force majeure (Article 36), it is extended to the first following banking day (Art. 29(a)). The nominated bank must tell the issuing bank the presentation was made within the extended time (29(b)). The latest shipment date is not extended (29(c)).
| Extends | Expiry and last presentation day |
|---|---|
| Not extended | Latest shipment date |
| Excluded | Force majeure (Art. 36) |
Check
- Bank's actual closure days at the place of presentation.
- Do not rely on extension for shipment.
- Calculate deadlines conservatively.
