How to Request a Letter of Credit Amendment: Steps and Examples

How an exporter asks for a Letter of Credit amendment, who sends it, and how acceptance works.

Short answer

An exporter requests an amendment by asking the buyer (applicant) to instruct its issuing bank, which sends the change, usually by MT707, through the advising bank. Under UCP 600 Article 10, an amendment binds the beneficiary only once accepted; partial acceptance is not allowed, and the original terms stand until acceptance is communicated.
