Short answer
Under UCP 600 Article 10, an amendment does not bind the beneficiary until it accepts it. The beneficiary should notify acceptance or rejection; if it does not, presenting documents that comply with the amended credit counts as acceptance, and presenting documents that comply with the original credit counts as rejection. Partial acceptance is treated as rejection.
| Rule | UCP 600 Art. 10 |
|---|---|
| Silence | Original terms stay in force |
| Partial acceptance | Not allowed — treated as rejection (Art. 10(e)) |
| Deemed-acceptance clauses | Disregarded (Art. 10(f)) |
How to respond
- Read the whole amendment against your plan.
- Accept or reject all of it.
- Notify the advising bank in writing.
- Keep a copy of your response.
Watch for
- Amendments that add new documents or conditions.
- Clauses saying the amendment applies unless rejected within a period — these have no effect.
