Short answer
A presentation cover letter (often the bank's own schedule form) lists the Letter of Credit number and the documents enclosed, with originals and copies, and gives payment instructions. It helps the bank identify the presentation and gives you a record. It is not one of the documents the credit requires, so it cannot fix a discrepancy in them.
| Purpose | Identify presentation; list documents; payment instructions |
|---|---|
| Required by the credit? | No — supporting letter only |
| Keep | Signed copy with bank's receipt stamp |
